For some applications, 5-(and-6)-carboxyrhodamine is a superior alternative to the widely used green fluorescent dye 5-(and-6)-carboxyfluorescein. The dye is insensitive to pH between 4 and 9 and is much more photostable than fluorescein. See spectra and photostability data under #
